The Idea Box
is a storefront art center in Chicago’s Budlong Woods/Lincoln Square area. Here we offer classes and summer camps, but also events, professional development training, parties, and experiences.
A versitile space for art-making
Our home base is as adaptable as our curriculum. Everything is movable, retractable, collapsible, and adjustable. This doesn’t just allow for both making and moving—it means our entire space can be transformed into a work of immersive art.
Dance floor and stage
Our raised dance floor takes care of performer’s bodies for more strenuous movement work. The “stage” area is convertible. Curtains can be removed or changed in a matter of minutes. Audience seating is flexible and can be configured dozens of ways.
Green Screen wall? Why not!
Our front creation space can be set up with tables for crafting, or kept open for movement and music rehearsals. We’ll be honest, we have a lot of other green screens, but we just couldn’t resist the opportunity to have a permanent chroma-key background in our play space!

Every corner of our space is filled with props, costumes, and movement toys, and it’s all meant to be touched and played with. Sometimes great art comes from within— and sometimes it’s inspired by a pair of silly glasses.
